EntrepreneurialOutcomes

How do we measure the success of an entrepreneur? What are the key performance measures in practice?

Chrisman 1998 defines success as (a) survival and (b) success.

I propose we look at outcomes by stage, where we evaluate: does the entrepreneur achieve that stage, how long did it take. We can also look at income over time as well as wealth creation. We also need to look at exits, both positive and negative.

What impacts survival and success? Some items include:

  • The entrepreneur
  • Industry structure
  • Business strategy
  • Environmental conditions
  • Resources
  • Organizational structure
  • Process
  • TMT

Sandberg Hofer 1987 do a study looking at the entrepreneur,

Quadrini 1999 shows the distribution of wealth and income outcomes for entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs in working families.
